How Do You Get The Rainbow Puffle 2010

The crime of "not-back-watching" Wrong

Glenn Greenwald

early December gave a report from the Seton Hall University serious doubt on the government's claims concerning the alleged simultaneous "suicide" of three prisoners in Guantánamo in June 2006. I have also written. Yesterday's Scott Horton of Harper's Magazine, an extraordinary new article in which the official version has been further called into question by new evidence provided the stomach turning around (many of them by guards Guanta ; namo), applying the presumption of close (without verification or conclusion) that these prisoners have been tortured to death, which was then covered up by her death was portrayed as a suicide. Scott's article should be read in its entire length, although Andrew Sullivan has handled some of the key revelations, including the motives of the guards, who identified the whole and the details of the torture of these prisoners have been exposed.

I would like to emphasize two points:

(1) The single biggest lie in the revisionist historiography of the war on terror is that our torture only to a handful of "special valuable "prisoner was confined. Current diving new credible reports of torture. The results from the fact that America introduced a regime of systematic torture in our entire global lawless detention system and has maintained. At least 100 prisoners in American custody have died during or because of their hearing. General Barry McCaffrey said: "We have people tortured mercilessly. We probably have killed dozens of them here, the armed forces like the CIA. Said, "General Antonio Taguba, after he found out after the investigation of the abuses at Abu Ghraib was that they were part of and included in official policy, sanctioned at higher ; chster level of the Government of the United States of America, and not the actions of a few "rogue" agents: "There is no doubt because the current administration has committed war crimes. The only question that remains to be answered is whether those who will have arranged the use of torture held to account. "

Regardless of all this are our media on maintaining the lie maintained that the controversy revolves around the torture of three cases of water torture and a few "very valuable" prisoners who have been treated a little rough. Therefore, Horton's story received so little attention and was almost completely ignored by right-wing commentators: because it shakes the core myth that torture was applied only in the most extreme cases - the ticking time bomb scenario - when there simply was no other alternative. Leading American media use for political reasons, not even the word "torture". And this despite the fact that the abuse was so brutal and inhumane, that the death of helpless prisoners - including 08/15-Gefangene, almost certainly some of them completely innocent - had in many cases result. The death of three prisoners - as so many others in similar cases - shows how extreme is this myth that was created to cover up what has been done really.

(2) incidents like this underscore dramatically, which can only be described as the grotesque immorality of the "Look Forward, Not Back" consensus, to which our political class - led has agreed - the president. In the Bush years, committed the Government of the United States of America some of the most egregious crimes that can commit a government. She has it violated its own laws, against international law and of many agreements, which the United States of America who are already long. Regardless of President Obama has insisted not only that no such crimes should be prosecuted and has not only made his Justice Department clear that - at most - a handful of low-ranking scapegoats to be pursued, no much worse, Obama has used every weapon at its disposal to keep secret the crimes to contact any responsibility for this, so even to this important "state secrets" raised, thereby the structure of lawlessness and Torture continues sustains that the commission of those crimes has made possible.

Any excuse that Obama's "Look forward, not back" should be justified, has proven to be a hoax (remember about the claim that we could not follow Bush's war crimes, because the OB endanger berparteilichkeit and the Republicans will not support health care reform would be). But even if these excuses would have been factually correct, nothing would have changed. There are no legitimate excuses for his eyes from crimes of this magnitude and to avert possible that they remain not investigated and unpunished. The real reason that "Look forward, not back" is so attractive to our political and media elites, is clearly that they face the do not want what it provides and unterstü ; have supported. They want to continue to hold the belief maintains that it was only the quick and necessary waterboarding of three detainees and a few blows for a handful of the worst of the worst. Only the refusal to "look back" holds open the possibility of the lies that they (the world and themselves) have told, maintain. But as Horton's report shows, there are real victims and real American criminals - many of them - and anyone who wants that which is concealed and covered up is, by definition, complicity in these crimes, not just those in the the past have been committed, but also in the same, which are almost certainly committed as a result of "not-back-watching" in the future.
